Sustainability REports 2021
Cultivating the Future
Hops, innovation and flavor have been laying the foundation of our passion for more than 225 years.
Overview
Our Sustainability Report
The following is a brief summary of our sustainability efforts. Our focus area is an essential part of this: along our value chain, it is an important tool to help us focus on what matters most - a sustainable future.
Focus
UNGC-Sustainable Development Goals
In line with the 17 goals of the 2030 Agenda, we have formulated sustainable resource management targets for our company.
Climate Protection
We are committed to reducing our environmental footprint and invest in projects that underline this attitude.
Supply Chain
We are continuously working to create the most efficient, responsible and fair supply chain possible.
Healthy Soil
Together with our growers, we take care to maintain soil health and prepare for future challenges.
Focus
Emissions
Measure & Compare CO2-Emissions
Using the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG) methodology, we are able to present and compare Scope 1, Scope 2 and Scope 3 emissions in a transparent, accurate and consistent manner.
Emissions From Hop Cultivation
Together with our hop growers and the GHG Emission Calcualtion tool from the LfL in Germany, we have been able to provide transparency around the environmental impact of hop cultivation.
Emissions From Business Travel
As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic almost all business travel, especially air travel, was halted immediately. The effect of this was overall positive for our planet, as seen in the chart to the left.
Focus
Storage Optimization
In order to optimize the use of our storage space, we looked for useful improvements for the rectangular bales. The result: increasing the single bale weight turned out to be a very effective way to make better use of our storage space.
Savings* in Storage, Packaging and Transport
Focus
Transport
In the recent year, we have focused our efforts in changing the way we move goods around the globe in order to reduce our carbon footprint. We have been able to significantly increase transport by rail, and therefore decreasing the amount of hops transported by truck by almost 30%!
