Introducing Dolcita™ HBC 1019 c.v.

A Sweet New Chapter in Hop Innovation

We’re thrilled to announce the launch of Dolcita™ HBC 1019 c.v., the latest hop variety to emerge from the storied innovation pipeline of the Hop Breeding Company (HBC). Developed through years of careful selection and breeding, Dolcita™ is more than just a hop, it’s a celebration of flavor, creativity, and the enduring success of collaborative agricultural science.

Meet Dolcita™ HBC 1019 c.v.

The latest HBC release, Dolcita™, pronounced ‘Dol-SEE-tah', is an aroma hop that embodies its name, derived from the Spanish and Italian roots meaning "little sweetie" or "sweetheart." It’s a hop that charms from the first sniff to the last sip.

Sensory Profile:

Dolcita bursts with a complex, fruit-forward character, a balanced blend of:

  • Stone fruits (notably ripe peach and creamy)
  • Tropical flavors (caramelised pineapple)
  • Citrus brightness (tangerine and orange)
  • Sweet aromatics evocative of tropical daiquiris and dark rum

Dolcita’s approachable yet expressive flavor makes it a compelling choice for a wide range of modern beer styles, from hazy IPAs and double IPAs to fruited pale ales and even new-school lagers.

Agronomic Profile:

  • High-yielding cultivar
  • Early harvest window
  • Good pest and disease resistance
  • Excellent storage stability

Over the past two years, we’ve had the pleasure of introducing HBC 1019 to brewers across the world through a series of collaborations, offering early access to this expressive variety while it was still in its experimental phase. Seeing it now graduate to full commercialisation, and earn its name alongside other beloved HBC varieties, is a truly rewarding moment.

"From the moment I first encountered Dolcita™, its incredibly vibrant aroma leaped out from thousands of other hybrids. It was the sole standout from a mother stock with uniquely tropical characteristics. And when we brewed with it, the flavor matched the aroma. In my 25 years of breeding, true winners are rare but Dolcita™ was unmistakable which is why it's now one of the quickest cross-to-market hops we've ever had."

What is the Hop Breeding Company?

Founded in 2003, HBC is a joint venture between Yakima Chief Ranches (YCR) and John I. Haas, Inc., created with the mission to develop pest- and disease-resistant hop varieties with strong commercial potential and standout sensory profiles. By uniting the extensive breeding efforts, knowledge, and resources of both parent companies, HBC has become one of the most respected forces in modern hop development.

From this alliance have emerged some of the most celebrated hop varieties used by brewers around the world - Citra®, Mosaic®, Sabro®, Ekuanot®, Loral®, Talus™, and most recently, Krush™ HBC 586 c.v. These hops are known not just for their impact on beer flavor, but for how they’ve shaped modern beer culture itself.

As part of the BarthHaas Group, John I. Haas plays a central role in the development and commercialisation of new hop varieties through HBC. That connection allows BarthHaas to support and supply brewers across the globe with access to the most exciting, high-performing hops emerging from the HBC breeding pipeline.
