Hello and welcome to the 2024 BarthHaas HopUpdates!
Weather conditions and Plant Development Germany
Since the last HopUpdate, moderate to warm summer temperatures have prevailed in all German growing regions in June and July. The precipitation levels for June and July are above the long-term average. The growing conditions for hops are optimal. Hop fields are currently in good condition. According to current estimates, all varieties are average to above average in yield.
The level of development is slightly ahead of the long-term average. The hop plants are at BBCH stage 55, the inflorescence buds are enlarged. BBCH stages 61 to 65, which indicate the beginning of blooming or full bloom, are present in all varieties.
The primary infection with downy mildew was successfully controlled. Due to the weather conditions, however, there is a risk of downy mildew infection. Powdery mildew is particularly present in susceptible varieties such as Herkules. Aphid and red spider mite infestations are mostly under control, but there are a few hop fields with heavy aphid infestations.
