Willamette, the triploid daughter of Fuggle, was released as a U.S. aroma variety in 1976 from the U.S.D.A. breeding program in Oregon. The variety is characterized by a low alpha acids content, mild aroma similar to Fuggle and medium cone yields. It is more difficult to grow than most varieties.

Typical Aroma Profile
Willamette shows a predominance of resiny, woody aromas of incense, along with red berries, augmented with fleeting nuances of cream caramel. Furthermore, overtones of citrus, green fruits and floral notes give this variety a remarkable flavour profile.
*Alpha acids are determined by conductometric titration (EBC 7.4) in Europe, by spectrophotometry (ASBC Hops-6) in the USA. Oil composition is determined by gas chromatography (ASBC Hops-17, EBC 7.12).
All values represent the medium range of the last 4 years. Be aware that specifically the alpha and oil values can vary in a broad range depending on the relevant crop year.
