From Cone to Glass

BarthHaas launches new workshop series

Nuremberg, February 17, 2025. Hop specialist BarthHaas is holding a completely new four-part series of workshops under the motto “From Cone to Glass – a Year in Hops” starting in May 2025.

In Part 1, “Experience Bine Training”, which takes place on a Hallertau hop farm in May, participants gain knowledge about hop cultivation and the stages of hop growth. This will include an overview of cone structure and the bitter and aroma compounds contained in the cones. In this fascinating workshop, the grower personally provides an introduction to fieldwork – and offers hands-on participation.

In Part 2, “Experience Hop Processing”, at the end of May, the participants visit the world’s largest hop processing plant and learn how high-quality hop products are created and used at BarthHaas. They also learn about the latest developments in hop research. In the afternoon, they go out into the field to assess the plants’ current growth status.

Part 3, “Hop Harvest Day”, in September takes the participants to a working hop farm where they can take part in the harvest and gain insights into the professional assessment of hops, the character of new hop varieties, and the problems caused by pests and diseases. The workshop concludes with practical training in sensory assessment of hops.

Part 4 of the course takes place on the BarthHaas Campus in Nuremberg. Under the motto “Experience Brewing”, participants gain an insight into how hops are used effectively in the brewing process – live and hands-on in the hop specialist’s concept brewery.
